... and displaying some weird brake issue.

Brakes are squeaking when cold, and shaking when hot. Any clues?

The rotors still look like this:

Could it be whatever is carving that groove into the rotor?

I hope so. The groove isn’t that terrible, and when I emailed the dealer about it a few months ago they didn’t reply...

I imagine whatever is carving the groove is probably squealing while it does. It looks like it has carved unevenly around the rotor (or maybe it just looks that way because of angle/light) which might be what is causing the shake.

Probably the pads left some uneven deposits on the rotors. If you feel up to it you could sand the surface of the pad and rotor, usually folks recommend 120 grit for this, and then do a few hard stops to get the pad bedded back in.

It’s going in tomorrow. Also, it’s under warranty - I know brake pads are wear items but this is abnormal...

And my wife is a redhead who grew up with a mechanic dad. She’s been driving a stick 2 years longer than I have. She is well-in-touch with her inner bitch and knows cars. She’ll stand up for herself if they try to give her bullshit.

I’m not taking it apart myself.

Can you catch your fingernail on any of those grooves?

If you can the rotors need replaced/resurfaced.

Ah yes, warranty is nice. My car is not in warranty so my thinking automatically goes to “am I able to fix this myself?”

Nope. They’re not that deep... I’ll have them turn the rotors though.

Have you tried endo’ing it yet? That might help...probably not.
